ACTIVITIES AND HOUSING FAQ

Can I use the telephone in my homestay?

You should check with your host on arrival but most host prefer students to phone from a public phone. Please agree with your hosts the arrangements for making international calls.

Please ask friends or relatives to be considerate to your hosts when calling from overseas. Students should not receive calls between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.

International phone calls from the U.S. are expensive. Students are strongly recommended to purchase phone cards.

Are Activities and Excursions included in the course fees?

Some are. Some are not.

Every week, TALK organizes an enormous range of local activities, sports, social and cultural events. These are often free or at very low cost.

We also arrange weekly excursions. These are inexpensive and charged at an additional cost. See our web page at http://www.talkinusa.com/newtalk/activities.html for a sample month of activities and excursions.

How is the shopping?

Fort Lauderdale is home to America's largest outlet shopping mall: Sawgrass Mills (250 discount stores).

Good buys include clothes (especially jeans), cameras, computers and electronic equipment (though ask our advice before you buy), and sports equipment is also generally a lot less expensive in the USA than in other parts of the world.
